Elijiah Dickinson and his brother – owners of the proprietary Dickinson Pumpkin seed, expanded their canning operations for their company Dickinson & Co. to Morton, Illinois.

Down the line, Elijah sold Dickinson & Co. and his special pumpkin crop to Archibald McNeill and brothers Arthur and Charles Libby in 1929 who started the LIBBY’S® brand through their company Libby, McNeill, and Libby.

In the 1930s through the 1960s, Libby’s partnered with farmers to breed pumpkins with just the right flavor and texture using our proprietary seed.

What makes our pumpkins so special?

We plant our proprietary seeds every May in Morton, Illinois, giving farmers optimal soil and weather conditions at the start of the season.

Harvesting

Harvesting

Roughly 120 days later, we have fields upon fields of plump, ripe pumpkins that are ready to harvest and send along to our nearby facility.

Canning

Canning

These pumpkins are too perfect for preservatives—so we don’t add any. We simply wash, chop, steam and press them into the LIBBY’S® 100% Pure Pumpkin you know and love.

OUR COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABILITY

When you tend to the earth as long as our farmers have, you learn to respect it. That’s why we’ve implemented critical sustainability practices along the way, from using regenerative farming methods to reclaiming water through an extensive recycling process, to turning our Morton factory into a zero-waste for disposal facility.
