1 cup butter
2 cups sugar
4 squares bitter chocolate or 1/2 c cocoa dissolved in 1/2 c hot water
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 eggs, beaten
2 cups all purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 cups milk (if hot water and cocoa is used use only 1 cup milk)
1 cup chopped pecans
Cream butter, sugar. Add eggs. Add cocoa or melted chocolate and vanilla. Alternately add milk and dry ingredients which have been mixed together. Add the nuts last. Bake in 3 greased cake pans at 375 degrees for about 30 minutes.
When layers are cool use the frosting below to cover all layers and sides:
Combine 1 pound of powdered sugar , 1 stick of butter, 1/4 cup of cocoa dissolved in 1/4 cup hot water (or 2 squares of melted bitter chocolate), 1 teaspoon vanilla, and 1 tablespoon lemon juice. After it is mixed well add 1 cup of chopped nuts.
