mackerel Patties

This is a recipe that my momma always made when we were kids growing up. It was a crispy fried fish patty that was good for us and tasted great also. We still make them. It is similar to Salmon croquette. I am putting a basic recipe but you could add ot take out what you like as long as you put the eggs and flour and seasonings it will work, the other vegetables added just give it an extra filling and taste good with the fish.


1 can macerel
1 egg
1 onion (diced)
1 bell pepper (chopped)
6 crackers (crushed up)
2 Tablespoons flour
grease for frying


Mash the macerels up in a bowl using a fork (we do not drain the liquid off), add all the other ingredients and mix well. Form into patties (we liked them thin but some like tham a little thicker) with your hands or use a spoon to put them into the frying pan. Cook until they are golden brown. Drain on paper towel and enjoy this wonderful fish patty.
