this is what Grandma made best!!


9 lasagna noodles, cooked and drained
1 lb italian sausage, cooked and drained
2 15 ounce containers ricotta cheese
2 eggs, slightly beaten
2 cups mozzarella cheese shredded
1 cup parmesan cheese, grated

3/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp dried basil
1/2 tsp dried oregano
1/8 tsp pepper
1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
1 medium onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
28 ounces crushed tomatoes
3/4 cup water
1 tsp sugar


Preheat oven to 350. Add sausage to a large skillet and combine with sauce ingredients. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat. Cover and simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occassionally. Meanwhile, in a medium bowl, combine ricotta, eggs, 1-1/2 cups mozzarella and 3/4 cup parmesan cheese. In a 9 x 13 pan, spread 1 cup meat sauce. Place 3 lasagna noodles over the sauce. Spread 1/2 of the cheese mixture over noodles and top with 1/3 of the meat sauce. Repeat.Top with remaining noodles and meat sauce. Cover with foil and bake 40 minutes. Uncover and sprinkle with reserved mozzarella and parmesan cheese. Bake an additional 10 minutes or until cheese is bubbly. Remove from oven and let stand 5 minutes before cutting and serving.
