Beefed Up Biscuit Casserole

This is a delightful recipe handed down from one of my Great Aunts. It uses hamburger, chili powder and tomato sauce. However, it is nothing like spaghetti sauce or chili. Something very different from the ordinary.


1-1/4 lbs. ground beef
1 Med. Onion
1 Bell Pepper
1 8 oz. can of tomato sauce
2 tsps. chili powder
1/2 tsp. garlic salt
salt & pepper to taste
1 egg
1/2 cup of sour cream
1-1/2 cups of grated sharp cheddar
1 can (10) flaky biscuits


Brown beef, with onoins and peppers, salt & pepper to taste and chili powder & garlic. Drain if necessary. Allow to simmer 15 mins.

Meanwhile, in a small bowl, beat egg with a fork, add sour cream and 1/2 cup of grated cheese.

Add cheese mixture to sauce and stir well.

In a sprayed, 8 x 9 or a 9 x 9 pan, Open biscuits and separate each one in half. layer the bottom of the pan with on half of the biscuits to make a crust, it's ok if all sides do not touch. Pour in sauce mixture. Layer the remaining biscuits on top. Cover with remaining cheese.

Bake at 325 degrees for 30 minutes.

Remove from oven, allow to cool some. Enjoy!!
