Karmel Glaze apple cake

Karmel Glaze apple cake

Edited on Oct 05, 2008

this recipe was created by my Grandmother Adelina and published in a local cookbook in the 1930's to raise money. This is as it was written and I have notes at the end for changes I made.

1/2 cup shortening
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/4 tsp allspice
1-1/2 c sugar
2 eggs unbeaten
2 cup chopped apple (cut to the size of corn kernels)
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
2 c. sifted flour
1/2 c chopped nuts
1/3 c water

blend shortening, salt, spices add sugar gradually, creaming well, add eggs singly, beating well after each addition. sift baking powder and soda with flour and add to creamed mixture alternating with water. add apples and chopped nuts bake in a greased pan 350 for 35 to 45 minutes.
Spread Karmel glaze on warm cake
2 Tbsp butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
2TB cream ( do not use canned milk)
1/4 tsp salt
1 Tbsp white corn syrup
Bring to boil take from heat and cool spread on cake.

The cake is fine without frosting but some family members have to have it. also this makes 12 large cupcakes. I use butter instead of shortening and adding nuts is optional. This is a thick cake mix

Not a NESTLÉ®-tested recipe.
