2 cups sugar
1 3/4 cup all purpose flour
3/4 cup cocoa
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup strong black coffee plus 1 cup boiling water
1 cup buttermilk or sour milk (to sour milk add 1 tablespoon white vinegar plus milk to make 1 cup )
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1 teaspoon vanilla
Heat oven to 350 Grease and flour two 9 inch round cake pans or 1 large 13x9x2 inch baking pan.
in large mixing bowl blend in sugar, flour, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder, and salt . Add eggs , coffee, buttermilk, oil , and vanilla ; beat on medium speed of electric mixer 2 minutes (batter will be thin) Pour batter
into prepared pan bake 30 to 35 minutes for round pans or 35 to 40 minutes for square pans . or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. cool for 10 minutes. remove from pans to wire racks . Cool
completely. Frost with frosting if desired. makes 10 to 12 servings .
serve with vanilla ice cream .
