Position a rack at the center of the oven. Heat to 350 .
Lightly coat a baking sheet with cooking spray.
Into a medium bowl sift together the flour, baking soda, and salt set aside.
In a large bowl , use a electric mixer on medium speed to beat together the melted butter and both sugars for about 2 minutes. Add the vanilla and egg and beat until well mixed.
With the mixer on low add the flour, mixing until just blended use a wooden spoon to mix in the chocolate. Use a spoon to scoop 1 1/2 inch balls of dough and arrange them 2 inches apart on baking sheet . Use the palm of your hand or the bottom of a glass to press the balls until they are about 1/4 inch thick. Bake for 15 to 18 minutes or until lightly golden brown at the edges. Place on a wire rack to cool completely.
