Can be eaten as candy or used in recipes calling for caramels.


2 cups white sugar
3/4 cup white corn syrup
1/2 cup butter
1 cup Carnation Evaporated milk
1/2 cup chopped nuts, optional


Butter the bottom of an 8" square pan. Sprinkle on the nuts.
In sauce pan, mix sugar, syrup and butter. Bring to a boil over low heqat stirring constantly. Gradually stir in the milk. Continue stirring as mixture thickens and cook to the hard ball stage, (250 degrees).
Pour into the pan. refrigerate until set. cut into squares and wrap in plastice wrap. Keep in a cool place.
