Batter Oatmeal Bread

I like a bread you dont have to knead. This is great with an Irish meal.


3/4 cup boiling water
3 Tbls shortening
1 tsp salt
1/2 cup quick oats
1/4 cup molasses or brown sugar
1 pkg yeast in 1/4 cup warm water
2-3/4 cups flour
1 egg


Pour the boiling water over the oats then add the shortening, salt, and molasses. Let stand until cool.
Add the remaining ingredients and mix well. Pour into 2 1pound greased coffee cans. Let rise for 45 minutes. Bake at 350 for 45 minutes.
