Never Fail Banana Bread

This recipe for banana bread has been in my family for 40+ years! It is THE recipe when you want delicious banana bread!


1/2 C. shortening
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 c. mashed ripe bananas (3-4 medium to large bananas)
1 tsp. lemon juice (bottled lemon juice is okay to use)
2 C. flour
3 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. chopped nuts (Can use pecans but nuts are optional)


Cream shortening and sugar together. Add eggs and beat until light.
Add bananas and lemon juice. Add dry ingredients quickly into the
creamed mixture. Bake in a greased loaf pan at 375 deg. for 1- 1 1/4 hrs.
Don’t over bake! After about 50 minutes, begin checking it. After baking, let cool or eat warm with butter! Yum!
