I just love to have these buttermilk biscuits on hand. They are great for eating anytime, but, they are great for making egg,cheese and bacon biscuit sandwiches for my husband, he prefers these rather thaan the fast food kind. They are great served with sausage gravy or as bread with any meal. They can be used so many ways. I like the fact that I can just get as many as I want out of the freezer and bake them. If I am going to have company, I use these instead of bread.


5 cups all purpose flour
1 teaspoon soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
4 Tablespoons sugar
1 cup all vegetable shortening
2 packages dry yeast
1/4 cup warm water
2 cups buttermilk


Dissolve yeast in warm water. Stir dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl, cut in shortening. Add yeast and buttermilk, mix well, knead quickly for about 20 t0 30 times. Roll out
about 1/2 inch thick, cut. Let rise for 10 minutes. Place biscuits on a cookie sheet lined with waxed paper, put into freezer until frozen. Place rolls in freezer bags.
When you are ready to use some, take as many out as you want to bake, place them on a cookie sheet, bake in a 400 degree oven for 15 to 20 minutes, till golden brown on top.
