Cream shortening and sugar; blend in peanut butter, salt, egg, vanilla and flour. Shape into balls about 1 inch in diameter.
Make a deep well in center of each ball with thumb.
Baked on ungreased cookie sheet in 350 degree oven 12 to 15 minutes. Cool on racks. Fill center of each cookie with tart jelly or jam of your choice.
