Put the morsels and shortening in a glass bowl and set it on top of a pan of warm water, make sure that the bottom of the bowl goes down into the pan about an inch at least.
Stir the morsels until they are melted and smooth.
Do not put the water on high or the morsels will seize and the chocolate will become hard.
Take the bowl carefully off the pan, set it on a counter or the table where everyone can reach it. Have everyone take a pretzel rod and a spoon. Dip the rod into the chocolate, take the spoon and spoon enough chocolate onto the rod so that it is covered, leaving enough room to hold it, about an inch or more.
Have a cookie sheet ready with waxed paper on it, as each child covers a pretzel, let them put the decorations on it of their choice, lay them on the waxed paper right away and put them into the refrigerator ubtil the chocolate hardens. They are now ready to eat.
These make great bake sale items. Just put them in Pretzel bags that you can buy from a candy supply store and tie them with a ribbon. I put two in each bag.
