Sausage & cheese appetizer balls

These appetizers are a hit at any party and can be made ahead and frozen for baking later.


Sausage balls:
2 16 oz packages regular or hot pork sausage.
4 cups (16 0z.) shredded sharp cheddar cheese.
1 3/4 cups all purpose baking mix
1 cup finely chopped onion
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon pepper

Dipping sauce:
1 cup ketchup
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 tablespoon soy sauce
1/2 tablespoon cider vinegar


For meatballs:
In a large bowl combine first six ingredients and mix well. Shape into 1-inch balls. Arrange meatballs on two un-greased 15-inch x 10-inch jelly roll baking pans. Bake uncovered at 375 degrees for 15 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on pans for 5 minutes.

For dipping sauce:
In a small saucepan combine sauce ingredients. Cook and stir over medium heat for 2 to 3 minutes or until heated through. Serve with appetizer balls.
Makes 8 dozen balls. Can halve the recipe or serve without the dipping sauce.
