Cream butter and sugar until fluffy.
Sift flour. Measure the flour and add the baking powder. Sift 3 times. Mix 2 cups of the flour with the fruit and nuts. Mix remaining flour into the creamed mixture. Add the milk and the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add the fruit and mix well. Bake in 2-3 loaf pans lined with waxed paper and greased. 325º for about 1 1/2 hours.
In a tube pan, cover the bottom with brown paper and grease and flour the sides. Bake 325º for 2 1/2 hours. Cool on racks
