Beat egg in a bowl. Sift dry ingredients. Add the orange juice and zest to butter and 1/2 of the flour mix. Add the cup of molasses and remaining flour. Add the water last. Pour into a greased 9x9 pan. Bake 350º 30-40 minutes or until it tests done.
Mix all ingredients together and biol rapidly until a caramel color and mixture is soft ball stage. Do not stir after removing from stove.
Pour on the warm cake.
