Ground Beef and cornbread

I raised three boys and they all loved this and would ask for it if I did not make it as often as they thought I should. Serve with green salad or a green vegetable.


1 1/2 lbs ground chuck
1 sm chopped onion
1 15-oz can tomatoe sauce
salt or garlic salt to taste
1 tsp sugar or sweetener
1 1/2 cups of cooked elbow macaroni
1 small box of cornbread mix prepared as directed on pkg.


Brown gound meat with chopped onion until well browned. Drain off any fat and season with salt or garlic salt. Stir in tomatoe sauce and about 1/2 can of water to remove all of the sauce from the can and sugar or sweetner. Cook about 5 minutes. Meanwhile, cook macaroni as directed on pkg. Drain macaroni and put into large oval baking dish, sprayed with cooking spray. Stir meat mixture into dish with macaroni,mixing well. Prepare the cornbread and pour over contents in baking dish. Cover with foil and bake at 350 degrees about 30 to 40 minutes. Remove foil and cook another 15 to 20 minutes until cornbread is browned and meat mixture is bubblely.
