2 bags fresh whole cranberries
2 granny smith apples,peeled cored and cubed
zest and juice of 2 large navel oranges
1 1/2 to 2 cups sugar
1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/2 tsp cloves
1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
Wash and pick over cranberries, put into a decent sized saucepan over medium heat, cook until they pop open. Add orange juice, zest, sugar, apples and spices, cook another few minutes until apples look cooked but not mushy. (I choose granny smiths because they hold their shape and tend to not get mushy)Remove from heat and add nuts. Chill and serve with turkey or whatever you like with cranberry sauce.
