Ingredients
3/4 cup shortening, melted and cooled
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup molasses
1 egg
2 teaspoons baking soda
2 cups flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
sugar to dip dough balls
Directions
Combine shortening, sugar and molasses. Add egg and mix well. In a separate bowl, combine the dry ingredients, then add to sugar mixture. Shape into small balls (about the size of a small walnut). Dip each in sugar. Place on ungreased baking sheet and bake at 350 F for 8 to 12 minutes. Cool on pan for a few minutes before removing to wire rack. The longer you bake them the harder they will get.
