Eating fruits and veggies that are canned, frozen, fresh, dried or 100% juice all count! They all provide valuable
nutrients and help you stay healthy.
One of our favorite ways to use CANNED PUMPKIN: Freeze pumpkin in ice
cube trays. Remove and store in a freezer bag once frozen. Add a cube or three to boost
flavor and nutrients:
- Canned or homemade soups
- Tomato Sauce
- Casseroles
Additional tips for canned pumpkin:
- Replace some of the oil in baked goods to reduce fat without sacrificing moisture or
flavor (½ cup pumpkin replaces ½ cup oil).
- Add canned pumpkin to muffin, scone and bread batters.
- Heat pumpkin with cinnamon or nutmeg and a drizzle of maple syrup for a great side
dish.
- Let your kids make their own dessert- pumpkin pudding! Add canned pumpkin and
some pumpkin pie spice to instant vanilla pudding for a quick, kid-friendly dessert.
- Add canned pumpkin to waffle or pancake batter for flavor and nutrition!
