The Traveling Cookie

Bake. Pack. Ship.
Get 'Em to Where They're Going
In One Piece

Planning to bake and ship a cookie care package on the NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Limited Edition Cookie Plate? Here’s what you need to know to make sure your cookies stay safe and don't crumble on the way to their destination:

Timing is Everything

Ship your cookies on Monday or Tuesday to ensure the packages arrive before the weekend. If you wait any longer, the cookies could end up sitting in a warehouse until the following week.

All In a Day's Work

Schedule the baking and shipping as close together as possible, preferably within 24 hours. This ensures freshness. But, be sure the cookies have had a chance to set before packing.

Good Things Come In Small Cookies

If you're using cutout cookies or decorated cookies, small sizes are less likely to crumble in transit.

Keep It Fresh

When you send homemade cookies, place a few slices of fresh bread in the box. It will absorb any moisture and the cookies will stay fresh.

Handle with Care

It doesn't hurt to wrap your cookies a few times. The more protection around the cookies, the less likely they are to break during shipping. Place two cookies back-to-back, with a small piece of waxed paper in between them. Wrap them loosely as a pair in plastic wrap. Then place them in small plastic sealable bags.

Send Your Cookies Packing

Don't forget to fill the box with packing material. Choose from bubble wrap, newspaper, or even plastic grocery bags!

Shipping to someone overseas? Be sure to follow a few important tips.

Middle East countries prohibit the following because they are contrary to the Islamic religion:

  • the entry of pork or pork by-products
  • alcoholic beverages (or items containing any alcohol, including vanilla)
  • home-baked treats should not contain allspice or nutmeg - spices are considered aphrodisiacs

A card should be included with the package stating that the products were made following these guidelines. This will facilitate passage into the country.

In addition, address the package to a specific person. The U.S. Postal Service will not accept mail addressed to "Any Serviceman".

To ensure that baked goods will withstand the high desert heat, please review the tips below:

  • No butter, margarine, peanut butter or nuts should be used. These fats will go rancid too fast in the high heat. Butter flavored vegetable shortening is a better alternative.
  • No brown sugar, corn sugar, honey, or molasses should be used. The baked goods will be too soft and possibly become moldy. Only white table sugar should be used.
  • Chocolate & butterscotch can be used in baked goods. Once chocolate has been baked into the product and has the chance to take up moisture from the batter, the chocolate will stay rather firm.
