Delicious! A dollop of cheesecake filling hides in each of these rich chocolate cupcakes. Top them with melted chocolate chips and some colored sprinkles for a birthday treat.

  • 2 cups (12-oz. pkg.) NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Semi-Sweet Chocolate Morsels, divided
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 packages (3 oz. each) cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt

PREHEAT oven to 350° F. Grease or paper-line 16 muffin cups.

MICROWAVE 1/2 cup morsels in small, uncovered, microwave-safe bowl on HIGH (100%) power for 45 seconds; STIR. The morsels may retain some of their original shape. If necessary, microwave at additional 10 to 15-second intervals, stirring just until morsels are melted. Cool to room temperature.

COMBINE flour, baking soda and salt in small bowl. Beat sugar, oil, egg and vanilla extract in large mixer bowl until blended. Beat in melted chocolate; gradually beat in flour mixture alternately with water (batter will be thin).

BEAT cream cheese, sugar, egg and salt in small mixer bowl until creamy. Stir in 1 cup morsels.

SPOON batter into prepared muffin cups, filling 1/2 full. Spoon filling by rounded tablespoon over batter. Spoon remaining batter over filling. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. While still hot, sprinkle with remaining 1/2 cup morsels. Let cool for 5 minutes or until morsels are shiny; spread to frost. Remove to wire racks to cool completely.

As a bundt

by A. Annie , PARMA, OH on Sep. 2007

I made these cupcakes, and they were the biggest hit! I tried the cake as a bundt cake, I was a little frustrated with baking times, and I thought I over cooked the cake, but it came out really well!!!! A very rich and delicious cake! It is not the favorite in the neighborhood!

Great Recipe!

These cupcakes were delicious! They were a huge hit at my sister's birthday bash, better than trying to serve up cake to all those people and MUCH tastier than your regular old cupcake! I will definitely keep this one!

The cream cheese filling was a big hit. It transformed plain chocolate cupcakes into something special. I was asked to make a double batch the next time since they disappeared so fast and my family was looking for more.

I also do this recipe in a 9"X13" cake pan. I drop the cream cheese mixture into the cake at intervals and swirl it through with a knife. It's a bit gooey-er, but who doesn't like that???

This one's a Keeper

by P. Piper , JACKSONVILLE, FL on Jul. 2006

Chocolate Cheesecake Cupcakes are a definite keeper for my recipe box! The blend of chocolate and cheesecakey goodness in every bite is simply delicious. I was thrilled that the filling stayed right in the middle of the cupcake and didn't sink to the bottom or ooze out the sides. Instead of frosting them, I just sprinkled them with powdered sugar. I think I might try the same recipe baked in a bundt pan for a fancier presentation.

didn't want to share

by M. Mei , BROOKLYN, NY on Jul. 2006

I made a batch for my boyfriend and he loved them so much, he refused to share them with anyone. they were easy and pretty quick to make - make the whole batch though, if you try making less (like 12 instead of 16), it just doesn't work out perfectly and will end up seeming a bit gooey in some spots.

Everyone Loved them!
