This sweet Caramelized Milk (Dulce de Leche) recipe uses condensed milk to make a full fantasy of flavor! Make it, taste it and enjoy this wonder.

  • 1 can (14 oz.) NESTLÉ® CARNATION® Sweetened Condensed Milk

We do not recommend heating milk in the can.

Pour 1 can (14 oz) CARNATION Sweetened Condensed Milk into top of double-boiler pan; cover. Place over boiling water. Cook over low heat, stirring occasionally, for 40 to 50 minutes, or until thick and light caramel-colored. Remove from heat. Beat until smooth.

OVEN: Preheat oven to 425° F. Pour 1 can (14 oz.) CARNATION Sweetened Condensed Milk into 9-inch pie plate. Cover with aluminum foil; place in shallow pan (pan should be larger than pie plate). Fill pan with hot water. Bake for 50 to 60 minutes, or until thick and light caramel-colored. Pour milk into small mixer bowl; beat until smooth.

MICROWAVE: Pour 1 can (14 oz.) CARNATION Sweetened Condensed Milk into large microwave-safe bowl. Cook on MEDIUM (50%) power for 4 minutes, stirring halfway through heating time. Reduce power to MEDIUM-LOW (30%) power; cook for 8 to 12 minutes, stirring with wire whisk every few minutes, until thick and light caramel-colored.

Note: Microwave ovens may vary; adjust timing accordingly.

My neighbor made this by boiling the can for an hour. That didn't sound very safe, so I found this site and the recipe for the microwave works great. This is great for dipping apples and pears!

This recipe brings back "sweet" memories of my mom and my gram making caramel in the can to the point of tears in my eyes--I am 63 so you see it WAS a long time ago. It never occured to me that I could OPEN the can and cook the milk either on the stove or in the microwave. Thank you for bringing back such sweet memories to me.

FANTASTIC says it all!

Using the microwave method, I made this to accompany a throw together dessert of brownies for drop-in company. I placed one brownie on each plate, drizzled some of this sauce over the top and around on the plate and sprinkled some chopped nuts on and around as well. Not only did it look like I had planned this elegant dessert for hours (NOT!) but it tasted great. QUICK, EASY and FANTASTIC! The best kind of recipe.
