Instant cocoa cannot even compare to the real thing!. Splenda in place of sugar is great, too.

snow day lifesaver

by B. Belinda , Wilmington, NC on Feb. 2010

We live on the southeast coast and my children have not seen snow in 4 years. Imagine our fun to wake to 4 inches this morning. I didn't have any hot chocolate mix in the house, but I had Nestle cocoa powder. I looked up the recipe and the kids thought it was the best hot chocolate ever.

Yummy with a couple of changes

We use a bit less sugar when we make it because otherwise it's just too sweet. I also love putting in different flavors than the vanilla extract. One of my favorites is a touch of orange extract :)

Love this recipe! Just the way my mom made it when I was a kid!

Old-fashioned Goodness

Sounds like the traditional way to make hot cocoa (the way we did when I was a child, before the little instant packets came out!) Once you have it this way, the other way is just not as good!

YUMMY Quick Fix

by A. Amanda , Paola, KS on Jan. 2009

I used this recipie when I ran out of packets. I noticed that another "best baker" tried it so I gave it a shot. The kids were raving about it tasting different. It was that I had used milk instead of water (like the packets sometimes suggest). They loved it.

Did not like this at all! Tried it because of the reviews, had one cup, then threw the rest out.

Good with this cold weather!

Great Recipe

My kids came in from making snow angels and wanted hot chocolate. I ran out of the little packets and tried this. Much better! They loved it and don't want any more of the packet kind. Thanks for a great recipe.

Very Chocolatey!

I made this for my 2 year old daughter's first cup of cocoa tonight and she loved it! It was very easy and very tasty! It was also pretty rich, but if you don't like it that way you can always dilute it a little.
