Chocolate Turtle Brownies are a perfect brownie treat with caramel and walnuts. You'll love using this recipe for family treats or casual entertaining.

  • 2 cups (12-oz. pkg.) NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Semi-Sweet Chocolate Morsels, divided
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine, ( 1 stick) cut into pieces
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
  • 12 caramels
  • 1 tablespoon milk

PREHEAT oven to 350° F. Grease 13 x 9-inch baking pan.

MELT 1 cup morsels and butter in large, heavy-duty saucepan over low heat, stirring constantly until smooth. Remove from heat; stir in eggs. Add flour, sugar, baking soda and vanilla extract; stir well.

SPREAD batter into prepared baking pan; sprinkle with remaining morsels and walnuts.

BAKE for 20 to 25 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out slightly sticky.

MICROWAVE caramels and milk in small, microwave-safe bowl on HIGH (100%) power for 1 minute; stir. Microwave at additional 10- to 15-second intervals, stirring until melted. Drizzle over warm brownies. Cool in pan on wire rack.

I've made this about a million times! I melt chocolate in the mircowave, so it is only 1 bowl to clean. I do some luncheons and it is usually one of the desserts that I include.

I have various versions of these, and this exact recipe, but I can never get the caramel quite right!

Like another reviewer, I substituted pecans for the walnuts to give them more of a "turtle candy" taste. Although the aroma was good when they came out of the oven, by the next afternoon the chocolate *really* sang. I'll definitely make them again, but I'll plan to bake them a day ahead. The batch was just enough for 4 college kids. :)

Yummy stuff!!!

These brownies are not only yummy, they are easy to make in a short time. They are best warm, whether not quite cooled totally or microwaved for 10-15 seconds. I make them using 2-8" square pans for 20-22 minutes to make sure the middle cooks through. Hope you enjoy them as much as my family & co-workers did!

I made these brownies for my niece and her family. These were excellent. They did not last long. I will have to make a double or triple batch next time. My great nephews already requested them for their goody box when they go off to college. Thanks for the great recipe.

These brownies were excellent! I used pecans instead of walnuts though! I originally made a batch for one of my son's friends as a thank-you for being a "taxi" everyday, and had to make more for my family!
