These peanut butter-filled chocolate thumbprint cookies are a must with a tall glass of ice-cold milk.

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Baking Cocoa
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups (12-oz. pkg.) NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Semi-Sweet Chocolate Morsels, divided
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup chunky or creamy peanut butter (not all-natural), divided
  • 1/3 cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs

PREHEAT oven to 350° F.

COMBINE flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt in small bowl. Melt 1 cup morsels in a small, heavy-duty saucepan over low heat; stir until smooth. Beat sugar, 1/3 cup peanut butter, butter and vanilla extract in large mixer bowl until creamy. Beat in melted chocolate. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Gradually beat in cocoa mixture. Stir in remaining morsels. Cover; refrigerate just until firm.

SHAPE dough into 1 1/2-inch balls; press thumb into tops to make about 1/2-inch-deep depressions. Place 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheets. Fill each depression with about 1/2 teaspoon peanut butter.

BAKE for 10 to 15 minutes or until sides are set but centers are still slightly soft. Cool on baking sheets for 2 minutes; remove to wire racks to cool completely.

As a major chocoholic I was very excited to try this one. They were yummy! They would even be good if you skipped the peanut butter in the center. This one's a keeper!

Delicious but Ugly

by B. , Charlotte NC on Apr. 2007

These cookies were delicious. My only complaint is that they didn't turn out quite like the picture- the peanut butter on the top of the cookies was rather melty. As a result, the cookies aren't very attractive, but they taste excellent!

These cookies are a real treat for us chocolate and peanut butter lovers.

cookie exchange delight

by r. rae , MAYS LANDING, NJ on Jan. 2007

i used these cookies this year as my choice for our anual cookie exchange at work. they were a huge hit, everyone wanted the recipe. instead of the peanut butter center, i used peanut butter filled chocolate kisses- just thought it looked a little nicer. definitely will make again.

New Favorite

by M. Mia , PIKEVILLE, KY on Dec. 2006

This cookie has become a new favorite Christmas cookie for me. This is a chocolate and peanut butter lovers dream come true. It's a must to try. When I was making the dough I worried about adding chocolate chips at the end because I thought it might be too strong a flavor, but it is superb. I might try another reviewer's suggestion of adding a mini peanut butter cup. Yum!

This was a great recipe, I love anything chocolate & these cookies did not disappoint, I did try a miniature peanut butter cup pushed into the center of the cookie in place of the peanut butter & it was delicious.
