The cut-out Chocolate Mini Chip Holiday Cookies are dotted with mini chocolate chips and topped with frosting and a drizzle of melted chocolate for a special treat. Fun to make with kids.

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) butter or margarine, softened
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups (12-ounce package) NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Semi-Sweet Chocolate Mini Morsels, divided
  • 1 container (16 ounces) prepared vanilla frosting, colored if desired

BEAT butter, brown sugar, granulated sugar, vanilla extract and salt in large mixer bowl until creamy. Beat in egg yolk. Gradually beat in flour. Stir in 1 ½ cups morsels. Divide dough in half. Cover; refrigerate for 1 hour or until firm.

PREHEAT oven to 350° F.

ROLL half of dough to ¼-inch thickness between two sheets of wax paper. Remove top sheet of wax paper. Cut dough into shapes using cookie cutters. Lift from wax paper; place on ungreased baking sheets. Refrigerate for 10 minutes. Repeat with remaining dough.

BAKE for 9 to 11 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on baking sheets for 2 minutes; remove to wire racks to cool completely. Spread with frosting; pipe with melted chocolate.

TO PIPE CHOCOLATE: Place remaining morsels in heavy-duty plastic bag. Microwave on HIGH (100%) power for 45 seconds; knead. Microwave for 10 seconds; knead until smooth. Cut tiny corner from bag; squeeze to pipe chocolate.

Fun Rollouts!

by R. Rosanna , West Salem, OH on Dec. 2009

This recipe was quick and easy to make. My children really enjoyed rolling the dough out and getting the chance to use their favorite cookie cutters for a chocolate chip cookie! The cookie isn't really sweet, but the frosting makes up for that and gives it just the right sweetness combination.

These looked like something fun and new to make for the holidays and they were delicious - but now too sweet. They were easier to make than I thought and so fun to decorate. We will definitely make these again . . . and again!

Our Cookie of the Year

by a. anne , Chambersburg, PA on Nov. 2008

I don't know why I've never thought to cut this classic cookie into shapes, but it's the perfect recipe for our family "gift" cookies this year. The kids enjoy cutting them out and everyone enjoys eating them! We will be making lots this year!

This cookie has an excellent flavor. I found if you refrigerate the dough overnight, it will roll better. If you roll it between 2 sheets of parchment paper, you will find that the dough will not stick, and your results will be SUPER ! Children love to decorate them. This is a keeper.

New Holiday favorite!

by M. MARY , Midway City, Ca on Jan. 2006

I made this cookie for Christmas and sent some to family (via mail) and gave out some to neighbors and family here. Received rave reviews and saw the 2 plates of them get cleaned BEFORE Christmas dinner. Very easy to make and pack for mailing. Have added it to my "must bake" list for this year's Christmas cookie list, but also plan to make them for St. Valentine's Day!
