Description

This baked version of Traditional Macaroni & Cheese is quick and easy to prepare. This family favorite is always a welcomed addition for lunch or at dinnertime.

Ingredients

  • 1 2/3 cups (about 7 oz.) dry small elbow macaroni, cooked and drained
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 can (12 fl. oz.) NESTLÉ® CARNATION® Evaporated Milk
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons butter or margarine
  • 2 cups (8 oz.) shredded sharp cheddar cheese, divided

Directions

PREHEAT oven to 375° F. Grease 2-quart casserole dish.

COMBINE cornstarch, salt, mustard and pepper in medium saucepan. Stir in evaporated milk, water, and butter. Cook over medium-heat, stirring constantly, until mixture comes to a boil. Boil for 1 minute. Remove from heat. Stir in 1½ cups cheese until melted. Add macaroni; mix well. Pour into prepared casserole dish. Top with remaining cheese.

BAKE for 20 to 25 minutes or until cheese is melted and light brown.

NOTE: To transform Macaroni & Cheese from a simple dish to a savory one-dish meal, add 1 cup chopped ham or hot dogs after milk mixture comes to a boil.

This macaroni & cheese casserole was the best tasting I've ever made not to mention quick & easy. I don't like to add eggs so this recipe is perfect! The only thing I might change up in the future is the types of cheese I use other than that, this recipe is a keeper, you won't be dissapointed!

I have tried many recipes for mac and cheese and this is one of the best I have found. I don't like eggs in my macaroni and this stayed creamy.

I am not a cook...at all...and was asked to bake a homemade dish of mac and cheese. I was so nervous but it was a smashing success! I made it two more times within the month and brought it to more parties...It's so delicious and rich. I actually added some extra sharp cheddar cheese and it was really so darn tasty!

I have been craving homemade macaroni & cheese so was thrilled that I found this easy sounding recipe. It was all that I had hoped for! Very creamy and delicious. I mixed bread crumbs with the cheese for the top for a nice crunch. My husband is still talking about how good it was with dinner tonight! I added the recipe to my recipe box and will definitely be making this again! :)

This recipe is like the one on the box of shells, except that it adds evaporated milk. I like this recipe when I don't have any eggs on hand. It freezes beautifully. I freeze it in serving sizes. My son thaws and heats it up in the microwave. yum-oh

This was the first time I'd made Mac & Cheese from scratch, and was very nervous. Not only was this easy, but the taste does not compare to boxed mac & cheese. AT ALL. This is the easiest, more wonderful recipe I ahve ever tried.

I make this recipe but occassionally substitute potatoes for macaroni. My family loves it.
