Mini Morsel Meringue Cookies

The contrast of fluffy egg whites with tiny bits of rich chocolate make these Mini Morsel Meringue Cookies great to pack and mail as well as elegant fare for parties and luncheons.

Ingredients

4 large egg whites
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
1 cup granulated sugar
2 cups (12-oz. pkg.) NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Semi-Sweet Chocolate Mini Morsels

Directions

PREHEAT oven to 300° F. Grease baking sheets.

BEAT egg whites, salt and cream of tartar in small mixer bowl until soft peaks form. Gradually add sugar; beat until stiff peaks form. Gently fold in morsels 1/3 cup at a time. Drop by level tablespoon onto prepared baking sheet.

BAKE for 20 to 25 minutes or until meringues are dry and crisp. Cool on baking sheets for 2 minutes; remove to wire racks to cool completely. Store in airtight containers.

My mom made cookies like this growing up but she put a chocolate kiss in the center - I mush prefer the mini morsels! I made these for my husband's co-workers but the general consensus was that they were a little weird, but I think they may just not eat a lot of meringue...I thought they were pretty good but I think I prefer regular cookie dough...

My husband enjoyed these almost as much as chocolate chip cookies, but with out all the fat. I loved how they looked--like I took a lot of time!

I made these cookies for a family celebration, and they were a huge hit! My daughter especially loved them. At first she didn't even want to try them, because she hates meringue; now she's their biggest fan and asks for them all the time! Fantastic recipe!

I make these for my younger sister on her birthday & at Christmas. I live in Southern California & she lives in Houston, Texas. These were one of her favorite cookies when she was a child (and still are). She moved to Texas twenty years ago & rarely comes home to visit. It brings back a lot of good, childhood memories for her & she looks forward to getting them twice a year.

These little cookies are so good. They are light and crispy. People think you fussed over making them. Another plus is that they are lower in fat than many cookies with chocolate chips in them. Be sure you bake them on a dry day, otherwise they might turn out sticky.
