Surprise Prize Cupcakes are a delicious, chocolatey cupcake, with a surprise with each bite!

  • 1 pkg. (18.25 oz.) plain chocolate cake mix
  • 1 1/3 cups water
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 pkg. (16.5 oz.) NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Refrigerated Chocolate Chip Cookie Bar Dough
  • 1 container (16 oz.) prepared chocolate frosting
  • NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Semi-Sweet Chocolate Mini Morsels

PREHEAT oven to 350° F. Paper-line 24 muffin cups.

BEAT cake mix, water, eggs and oil in large mixer bowl on low speed for 30 seconds. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes or until smooth. Spoon about 1/4 cup batter into each prepared muffin cup, filling about two-thirds full.

CUT cookie dough into 24 pieces; roll each into a ball. Place one ball of dough in each muffin cup, pressing it to the bottom.

Originally I made the Surprise Prize Cupcakes for the kids I work with. They were so good that I made them for a party and everyone loved them! This recipe is so clever, but still really simple. If you're looking for a way to impress people with your baking skills I recommend these cupcakes!

This recipe is wonderful!! It is so easy to make and tastes delicious. I've started baking every Sunday as a family treat and this one is a hit. I used chocolate devil's food cake and classic chocolate frosting. Chocolate lovers will find this hits the spot. I like a little texture in cupcakes so the cookie and mini chips just enhanced what was already a great recipe. I will make this again.

My son and I had a lot of fun making these together. He rolled the cookie dough and I mixed the cupcakes. These were so good we have bought more cake mixes and cookies to experiment with different flavors.
