These are SO wonderful! My favorite kind of bars-hands down! I usually mix together the chocolate and butterscotch chips, but can't wait to try it with the chocolate chips sprinkled instead (or maybe even vice versa). The look is beautiful and I imagine the texture would be really cool too. Thanks for the great idea!

We used to call them Scotcheroos
, Cumming, GA on Jul. 2008
This recipe is exactly like the Scotcheroos we used to make back in the early 60's in Home Ec. Class- and one that has been published in old "church recipe" book for years...except we would melt the butterscotch and chocolate morsels together- but use one whole package of each 12 oz. of chocolate chips and 11 oz of butterscotch-(is how it is packaged). So why the name change? It is excactly the same recipe!

Good, but I use all chocolate morsels from Nestles. We don't really care for the butterscotch.

I HAVE MADE THESE TREATS FOR MY GRANDCHILDREN IN SCHOOL AND I FOUND A BETTER WAY TO GET THE BARS OUT OF THE DISH, FIRST I GREASED THE PAN THEN I PUT PARCHMENT PAPER INSIDE THE DISH AND BUTTER THE PAPER , THEN I PLACED THE MIXTURE ON THE PAPER. BEFORE PLACING THE DISH IN THE REFRIGERATOR I WOULD PLACE RESSES PIECES ON TOP WITH THE CHOCOLATE MORSELS THE KIDS IN THE CLASSROOMS REALLY LIKE THESE TREATS AND THEY OFTEN ASK MY GRANDCHILDREN TO HAVE ME MAKE THEM WHEN THEY HAVE ANY EVENTS IN SCHOOL

The first time I made these I used chocolate crispy rice cereal instead of the plain rice cereal. It is now my husband's new favorite. If you like Little Debbie's Star Crunchers - you will like this version.
