Crumble-Topped Chocolate Peanut Butter Cake

  • 1 2/3 cups (11-ounce package) NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Peanut Butter & Milk Chocolate Morsels, divided
  • 1/2 cup NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Semi-Sweet Chocolate Morsels
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) butter or margarine, softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup water
  • 24 pieces NESTLÉ BUTTERFINGER BITES Candy, coarsely chopped


PREHEAT oven to 325° F. Grease 13 x 9-inch baking pan.

MICROWAVE 1 cup peanut butter and milk chocolate morsels and semi-sweet morsels in medium, uncovered, microwave-safe bowl on MEDIUM-HIGH (70%) power for 1 minute; STIR. The morsels may retain some of their original shape. If necessary, microwave at additional 10- to 15-second intervals, stirring just until melted.

COMBINE flour, baking soda and salt in small bowl. Beat sugar, butter and vanilla extract in large mixer bowl until creamy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in melted morsels. Gradually beat in flour mixture alternately with water until smooth. Spread into prepared pan.

BAKE for 40 to 45 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Immediately sprinkle remaining peanut butter and milk chocolate morsels. Let stand 5 minutes or until morsels are shiny; spread evenly. Sprinkle with BUTTERFINGER® pieces. Cool completely in pan on wire rack.

I loved the topping. However, the cake itself didn't have too much of a peanut butter flavoring. I think it would be better with more pb. Very good overall. Beware of the cake sinking in the middle however.

My sixteen year old son loves Butterfingers. When I saw this recipe last year I knew he would like it for his birthday. It was such a hit that he asked for it again this year! The cake is moist and who doesn't like peanut butter and chocolate??

I had to bring a cake for work and I am usually not a huge chocolate cake fan but this cake is awesome! It did cave in at first and than it kinda puffed back out and thats when I figured it was done! This was a huge hit at work and very very moist!! love it!

If you like peanut butter and chocolate, this cake is for you!! I was afraid that the cake would be dry, but it was surprisingly moist and the butterfinger topping was the best part. Very easy to make.

One of my kids is allergic to peanut butter, so I used the caramel swirls instead. Fantastic! I also substituted another candy bar instead of the Butterfinger. Everyone loved it.

I baked this cake last night and it turned out beautiful. I only made a few changes to the recipe: I lined my pan with foil and sprayed the foil with bakers joy. It was much easier and neater to cut the cake when you can take it out of the pan in one piece and then cut it. I had to give it an extra 5-10 mins to cook. I also did not skim on the morsels. I used more than the recipe called for, but I didn't measure them. I did not melt my morsels until I was ready to add them to my batter. If you do it at the beginning, they will harden up and be very hard to mix in. This is a very fun recipe. It is moist and delicious. I will definently make this again and again.

I am an ameture baker at best. However whe I baked the Crumble-Topped Chcolate Peanut Butter Cake, I quickly gained a reputation around my office as a baker. I have request to bake this cake for our holiday parties..a couple months away. It was amazing. It turned out like I had made them my whole life. And it was incredibly easy. And it stayed so moist I couldnt believe it. Very easy, tastes great, I recommend everyone try it.
