I started a tradition at work of celebrating my co-workers birthdays by bringing in a treat to share on their special day. Many of the recipes I use come from verybestbaking.com. It is always fun to find out what desserts they like and then to come home and research them online to find something yummy for them. Tnanks to you for making this a fun tradition for me and my co-workers.

That's a great way to create friendships with your co-workers. And for us Christians, it's a great way to build a connection and hopefully be able to share the Good News with our co-workers. This is a great idea especially around Easter time, when our Savior died for our sins. Great idea!.

I use to make quite a bit of Italian Pastries on all of the Holidays at our clinic for all the physicians and staff before my retirement as a nurse. I would always make the all time favorite American cookie, Nestles Cho Chip Cookies. Til this day, I get invited back to the clinic on all holidays and they remind me to bake! I think that's why I keep getting invited!.

Brenda W.from HOUSTON, TX on March 01, 2009 at 07:11:11

Jan W.from Blytheville, AR on February 25, 2009 at 09:55:31

Yes, that seems to be the tradition at our office too...only it's more like "What can we get Jan to bring for my birthday?"....But, I don't mind. I enjoy it and love their reactions because they never know "what Jan will bring!".

Marlene S.from Depew, NY on February 24, 2009 at 05:36:58

Ranay T.from Streamwood, IL on February 03, 2009 at 11:10:19

Sorry, I didn't finish with my last comment! Well, it was a hit here and there were only crumbs left on the platter when I went to get it! I need to bring in things more often because it's just my husband and me at home, so we get way too much sugar if we eat it all ourselves!.

Ranay T.from Streamwood, IL on February 03, 2009 at 11:08:21

I've told my co-workers (which are 99% men) that I like to bake and I haven't stopped hearing about it for me to bring something in. We had a holiday treat table this past Christmas and I made the Libby's Pumpkin Roll. I've made it that last couple years and it's always a hit with my family, so I decided to try it at work.

Bev V.from COLBY, KS on February 02, 2009 at 09:52:36

I have also made treats for my co-workers on their birthdays and the holidays to bring to the office. I also started the tradition of going to the drug store where they sell grab bags for $3.00 to give to the birthday person. It makes for a cheap party. Bev V. Colby, KS.

Instead of celebrating every single day on brithdays we chose to celebrate one special day per month. It seemed that if it were only one day then it was easier to go all out and really do something special for that person. Using the recipes here will make that day even easier!.

Donna G.from , on January 28, 2009 at 05:02:50

I used to do this when I worked as well. I loved making treats they loved and then I would always allow them to have all the extras. I always made extra and left the treats at home. The best hit I ever hard was the Pumpkin Cranberry bread for a new co-workers birthday who was shy. This brought her out of her box and into the work community in and instance..

When I first started working at my current office 6 yrs ago, no one celebrate birthdays. So, I bought a birthday poster at a children's learning store and put everyone's name on it on their birthday month. When every a birthday month rolls around, we have a potluck and dessert. I get all my recipes for the desserts from VBB. It's a great way for all employees to feel special on their birthday..

We recently started cooking a meal one day a month where we are each assigned one category i.e. appetizer, entree, side dish, dessert. We encourage each other to try out new recipes as we are willing guinea pigs. It has resulted in wonderful new found recipes for our collections..

I also did this when I worked. And would often bring in a treat for my staff for staff meetings. I actually managed to get them all there!!!! I noticed few women were willing to bring anything they made and some said it made them "different" and they didn't want to stand out in that way. Because we were in a mostly male organization their thinking was probably on target, but how sad..

I too like to do this; it puts something really positive into an all-too-often negative atmosphere. It puts a lot of smiles on a lot of faces!.

What a great idea. I used to order a "monthly" birthday cake for our coworkers (like 50 of us in the department). It would have been much better to do this..

I work in a very busy place and think that EVERONE derserves a special treat! Once or twice a week when I am baking for the 7 of us at home, I bake a second one to take to work! I love seeing the looks on their faces when their days was made a little bit sweeter. It only takes about 1 hour at home, try it and put a smile on someone's face!.

Reminds me of when I had my first job in the 70's. We used to bring in a cake for everyone's birthday. All that liked to bake rotated doing the cake. At the holiday time, our company let us set up an area for all to bring in traditional, ethnic, or just fun dishes. We would do it for the whole week ahead of the holiday. It was tremendous fun, a great way to share traditions from other cultures or countries, and a great resource for recipes..

We have a lady at work who does all the baking for birthdays around the office. We can't wait to see what she will bring to the next birthday. She will always ask the birthday person what ingrediants they like the most and then whip up something from there. She never lets on what it will be but it is always great!!.

Melissa L.from Malvern, AR on August 29, 2008 at 12:48:51

I always loved baking for my workmates when I was employeed. Now I am disabled and am unable to spend much time on my feet baking. I try to do as much as my body will let me but sometimes it is only once a week we get something sweet around here. My family understands but that does not make it any easier on me not feeling as if I am doing them the way they deserve..

Sue B.from Bellingham, MA on August 29, 2008 at 05:40:50

One of the questions asked when interviewing new people for our office is "Can you bake?" It doesn't have to be a special occasion in our office, we all seem to take turns bringing in goodies and sharing recipes..

Arlene A.from Wilkes Barre, PA on August 08, 2008 at 06:32:57
