JON, VERY NICE MEMORY OF YOUR DAD. I'AM SURE IT WAS SPECIAL TO HIM AS WELL.MY PEPERE WAS THE ONLY ONE TO LOVE MINCEMEAT PIE. I WOULD MAKE IT FOR HIM FOR THE HOLIDAYS. HE SAID IT REMINDED HIM OF HIS MOM AND GRANDMA IN THE KITCHEN. I STOPPED MAKING THEM FOR AWHILE, THEN ONE DAY I MADE ONE JUST FOR THE HECK OF IT. THE SMELL BRAUGHT BACK SO MANY MEMORIES. I COULD SEE THE SMILE ON HIS FACE. IT MADE MY DAY.GOD BLESS YOUR DAD JON.

My Dad enjoyed eating Caramel Chex Mix that I made from corn chex cereal. He had false teeth and caramel popcorn was not easy to eat. I loved to cook for him.

My Father has passed as well but boy could he cook. I was always at his side as he called me his soup chief. My nickname in the family is " THE Cook"

Dads are special people! Isn't it great that just by thinking of a brownie sundae, you are transported back to the times you spent with him! During the depression, my Dad always fixed us a special treat after dinner. He took a piece of bread, spread butter on it, and dusted it with sugar. It was, and still is, one of my favorite treats!

Darla I have not had one of those in Years!! I remember making those as a kid.

Now I cannot eat butter but you sure brought back a fond childhood memory.

My Dad was always so funny, but with a dry sense of humor. One of those "you just have to be there" things. Anyway, he loved my Moms "from scratch" cakes. That's the way things were done years ago. His Mom having and old wood stove in her kitchen and my Mom with an electric stove. When Mom would get the cake started, my Dad would wait til just the right moment and open the oven slightly and slam it so the cake would fall. It would be sooo moist and delicious just like Mammaw used to make. There's some things you just never forget. My Dad is in heaven now and I hope my "Mammaw" is cooking for him!!

I's so nice to have fond memories of our family members that are no longer with us. It's not the big parties or get togethers,but a piece of bread with butter and sugar,the little things that stay forever in our memories.My Mom was the greatest cook but my sons always talk about the cinnamon toast that grandma made for them,yes it's the little things.God bless you .

wow with the holidays gone and another new year ahead of us - reading these post remind me of my daddys saturday burger nites we always had so much fun, he would make it fun for us to cook and i love a good greasy burger to this day (who doesn't?) and remember and miss my daddy - he was so special to me

My Dad was a good cook though he didn't cook often. I can remember him making what we used to call "bomb". That would be 3# of hamburg made into a meatloaf. He worked away from home most of the week so on the weekends, he enjoyed puttering in the kitchen. He would sing and sometimes tap dance around. He was so much fun. You never stop missing them.

It is amazing the power of a smell. Just the whiff of a steak or pasta sauce reminds me of my Dad. Those are 2 of the things that I remember him cooking. He did an awesome Beef Barley soup and I have yet to figure out his recipe for cold slaw.
After my Mom died he did some of the cooking but I ended up doing most of it since I got home from school before he got home from work. I don't know why I never asked him to give me his recipes, I guess a 9 or 10 year old does not think of things like that.

We are so connected to family through the kitchen. Food aromas do so much to make the connections that become faded with time.
