My church, Blackwater United Methodist, is very involved in the Kairos Prison Ministry.  This ministry brings the love of Christ to the incarcerated, including those at Angola Federal Penitentiary and Louisiana Women's Correctional Institute.  People from all over go on the weekend event to show the residents what the love of Christ is like.  One of the biggest ways Kairos has to show this love is - cookies.  Each person who goes on the weekend must bring several hundred dozen HOMEMADE cookies, bagged by the dozen.  During the course of the weekend, not just residents attending the event, but EVERY RESIDENT AT THE COMPOUND receives a dozen homemade cookies.  As they eat those cookies, they can reflect that someone who has never met them and doesn't even know they exist has taken the time to bake a treat for them.  Blackwater's baking efforts now reach the tens of thousands of cookies baked for this event.  Isn't it wonderful how something as simple as a cookie can reach out and make a difference in someone's life?Smile

Truly a wonderful, supportive gesture on the part of your church congregation. If you touch and change just one life, your efforts will have been rewarded.

God bless you  m f  - what a lovely church full of lovely people.  Praise God for such work.  And praise the prison ministry.
m f - I sure hope you become a steady member of our group.

Last year I tried to mail cookies to a man in the state prison and recieved a curt, copy of a letter saying they were destroyed - no prisoner ever received anything like that.   So I put a couple $$ in a letter and mailed that off ..... I got it back.   I sent personal letters and they went through just fine.

What a great way to share the Lord with people in prison.  Even if they are not immediately changed.  The seeds are planted for them to think about in the future.
