It would be the first time that we would meet our granddaughter; Colby. She had turned 2 a few months earlier so she was the perfect age to turn on to baking. I sat her up on the counter and asked if she wanted to help me make some brownies. Of course she did, I helped her put the mix in the bowl, crack the eggs, add the oil and water and then she mixed. We had brownie mix all over the counter, but we didn't care. Then to make an already great brownie even better we added extra chocolate chips. Yummy. My special trick to make really great brownies is to add globs of peanut butter on top of the brownies in the pan. Then just gently, well okay, not so gently with a 2 year old, but pull the peanut butter through the mix, just a bit. Making sure we leave nice gooey globs of peanut butter, so when you bite into them, you can get a mouthful of it. What is better than chocolate and peanut butter, nothing. We had so much fun making those brownies and even more fun eating them. Getting a big glob of peanut butter was a major prize. What fun we had. Now when her mamma makes those brownies Colby knows just how much peanut butter to add to them, just like memere showed her. I miss that baby girl so much, but everytime I make those brownies here at home, my heart is warmed many times over, the memories are the best.
