When I was a small boy, my grandmother told me when she was a little girl she would have to wait for a couple of month's after her Birthday for a cake. When I asked her why? She told me that they rationed sugar and flour and her mom had to save a little each month until she had enough to bake her a cake. I though it was so sad. She alway's made sure I had a cake on my birthday that she baked for me, and I felt special because it was very important for her to do that for me. Whenever it's my B-Day I think of her . Having to wait for month's for a cake . She must have really looked forward to that day. We are very blessed in this day and age that we don't have to go through what our grandparent's had to endure.

It's the little things, that we often take for granted. The next time I bake something I will think of that, and of your grandmother with honor!

My Mom was born on Dec 17th.  She told me (in later years) that she never got a birthday cake or had a party for her birthday.  It was so close to Christmas, she didn't get a seperate gift either.  So I made sure to always celebrate her birthday with a cake and a gift.  Even if it was close to Christmas.
