Every year my Moms family has a reunion on the Llano river and we always made cookies for a snack. 1964 was the I decided to count the number of cookies then see how long it took my extended family to eat them. We made over 144 dozen cookies that year that were gone in less than 3 days. Every time my unckles asked for a cookie they said I was as handy as a pocket on a shirt for making so many great cookies. My Mom was 1 of 9 kids that grew to adulthood and now all but 1 of them is gone. The family tradition of camping out on the river continues for more than 55 years now. My Moms brothers 5 of them all served in the service during WW2 and she was a bombsight mechanic. I am very proud knowing that all of my family supported the USA in time of war and worked and sacrificed for our freedom. Celebrating the 4th of July every year as part of a family tradtion to honor our independence is special to our family. My husband served in the Army and I am very proud of his service and him.

Tradition is so important and your story touches my heart. Your family should be very proud to have so many members that served their country. Also, I can't imagine making 144 dozen cookies...it's mindboggling. But I'm sure they were enjoyed by all.

Thank you for sharing this wonderful story, but a bigger thank you for all that your family has done for this great country of ours. Without folks like yours, we wouldn't be the great country we are. So even though saying those 2 words isn't enough, it's all that I have from the bottom of my heart.

I loved your story. Family is very important and that many cookies took a while to make, but much appreciated, I'm sure. My father fought during WWII in the Pacific and my husband and I are also vets. I guess it runs in a lot of families. Traditions, patriotism and love of country. God Bless the USA and all who serve today and God Bless your family also.
