When my son was about ten he went "hunting" with his friend and uncle. He happened to kill a squirrel. His friend's uncle cleaned the squirrel and my son proudly brought it home and showed it off. I grew up eating wildlife and had eaten squirrel so I was not put off. I asked my son when he wanted me to cook the squirrel. His eyes grew wide and he said "I'm not eating a squirrel!" I told him that we only killed wildlife to eat and not just for fun. He hung his head and said "it was sort of sad." I gave the squirrel to a neighbor that liked to eat squirrel. My son is now twenty-five and has never gone hunting again!

that's the right attitude to have, IMHO that is. Don't kill it if you are not going to eat it!

I agree,if you hunt you should eat it,but kids don't realize this.Once my brothers buddy had gone hunting and my brother was some where else hunting. His friend had brought a rabbit and it was field dressed but not skinned .Well I had no idea when he was coming home so I skinned it and cut it into pieces and put it in brine. This was my first experience with rabbit, but I felt we should eat it.The next day I breaded it ,fried it and put it in the oven to finish cooking it.To my surprise it was wonderful.I would eat it again.
