I WAS TOUCHED AND AMAZED AT THE KIND RESPONSES TO MY STORY.IT IS NICE TO KNOW PEOPLE CARE, EVEN STRANGERS.I WENT TO VISIT MY FRIEND AND HIS MOM, AFTER I VISITED MY MOMS GRADESIDE.LEFT SOME FLOWERS AND A SMALL PLATE OF COOKIES.AS I WAS DRIVING AWAY, I SAW THE BIRDS ENJOYING THE COOKIES. IT PUT A SMILE ON MY FACE ,MY MOM LOVED BIRDS. WE USE TO BIRD WATCH, PLUS THE FACT THE BIRDS NEVER ATE MY FIRST BATCH OF COOKIES.MAYBE IT WAS MY MOMS SENSE OF HUMOR. I JOINED MY FRIEND FOR DINNER.WE HAD A GREAT VISIT.I THANKED THEM FOR THE COOKIES.HIS MOM LOOKED UP, SMILED, SHE SAID "WHAT COOKIES?".SHE WINKED AT ME., I JUST SMILE. SHE HAS DONE SO MUCH FOR ME, EVERYONE SHE MEETS,YET SHE NEVER TAKES CREDIT.MY MOM WAS THE SAME WAY,DOING SO MUCH..I MISS HER SO MUCH. I WISH I COULD TELL HER ONE MORE TIME HOW MUCH I LOVE HER,MISS HER DEEPLY.ALWAYS PUTTING ME FIRST..SO REMEMBER ALL THE MOMS IN YOUR LIFE. THEY DO NOT HAVE TO BE YOUR REAL MOM.THEY COULD BE ANYONE.A KIND, WONDERFUL PERSON THAT GOT YOU THROUGH SOME HARD TIMES.SO HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY TO ALL THE MOMS OUT THERE.THE WORLD IS A BETTER PLACE DUE TO ALL OF YOU.SO GIVE YOURSELF A PAT ON THE BACK.KICK BACK PUT UP YOUR FEET. HAVE A COOKIE,YOU EARNED IT!!!

I unfortunately cannot have kids of my own so especially the kids at church are mine for a few hours each week. One boy in particular drew and gave me a picture last Sunday and said to me, "Although you are not my real Mom, here is an early Mother's Day present." He does not know how touched I was and am by that remark

Being single, I, too, share in the joy of 'adopting' some of the church children (Sunday school students, and children 'just around' the church). And yes it warms my heart to have them to bake cookies for! We get the joy when we reach out to them.

As a teacher I see many kids in need of a second mom. There are so many kind people out there. A teacher I work with has been there for ever. She gets letters from former students all the time. Many come in to see her,she is a wonderful person. She has set many students gone astray on to the right track. She does not give up on them. I know she would never take credit for all she has done .She is very modest. She told me once over coffee before the start of school, she does all she does because it is the right thing to do.It is a very simple way to live, to be.I think it takes a great person to do so much for so many. She said she had a teacher that helped her out in high school, she was lost, but soon found her way.so I think she learned a wonderful lesson, one she passes on each day. Thanks Hunter for reminding us,we all have a second mom in our lives. We should send them a card or give them a call.

Beautiful! Thanks for sharing with us. You are so authentic and sincere; I love to read your posts. I'll have a cookie now, and think of you, your cookies and the birds! You have a cookie, too, for all those who you've touched with your messages. It was wonderful and perfect timing for you to post these stories about mom's and second mom's with Mother's day coming up this Sunday. We'll all need remember the special moms who have been in our lives.

Thank you for the wonderful thoughts of your mother, you never know what you have until she is gone. I hope my children and grandchildren feel the same way one day, but I feel sure they will. I lost mine in 2003 and I still miss her. Also thanks for the Mother's Day wishes

Hunter W....

I miss my Mom too! And like you, my Mom ALWAYS did without so us children got what we needed. You don't have to wish you can tell your Mom one more time that you love her, Just tell her and she will hear you...she knows!! Thanks you for sharing your wonderful story.
Happy Mother's Day!

What a heartwarming story. My Mom has been gone for almost 7 years and for most of those years, I dreaded Mother's Day because it made me miss so much more. Like yours, my mom was a wonderful person who loved doing for others.
It does get easier with time. I still miss her but it isn't quite as painful now.

All I can say is wow! Happiness describes what my Mom brought to our family. She was a wonderful Christian lady.

Thank you, Julie, for looking back at this older story post that Hunter started. There are so many discussions that I haven't had time to check them all out. And this is obviously one that I missed. I thought it was a recent one when I first started reading what Hunter had written until I got to the Mother's Day part....then I looked at the date and saw it was last May. But I am glad to have read it and my heart goes out to Hunter in the loss of his mom. I've got to admit by the time I got to the end of what he'd written I was crying. His words really touched me. And like someone else mentioned, our mom's do anything for us, even if it means they go without. I'm fortunate to have my mom still and she is almost 91 years old!! Thanks, Hunter, for sharing your heart and thanks, Julie, for bringing this story to my attention!!!
