Seventy-nine year old Mom is visiting from Colorado for a couple of months. We decided to use our time to make new memories. Tonight's dinner turned out to be chicken slumgullion. Mom said it arose from the great depression. Since we are in the "greater depression" now, I thought it was appropriate. Dinnertime is story time with us.

I agree with everyone else - I'd love when people refer to a dish that most people aren't familiar with, that recipies should be posted. Please! :)

I would love this recipe. My husbands family used to make something called slumgullion, but it was a hamburger--tomato pasta dish.

Thanks for the memories. My late Mother used this Recipe for slumgullion.
Ingredients:
1 pound lean ground beef
1 (11 ounce) can whole kernel corn
1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed tomato soup
1 (8 ounce) package wide egg noodles
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Directions:
In a large skillet, cook and stir ground meat until browned. Drain off excess fat.
Stir in corn and tomato soup. Simmer while the noodles are cooking, about 10 minutes.
Cook pasta in a large pot of boiling water until al dente. Drain.
Stir noodles into ground beef mixture, and sprinkle parmesan cheese on top. Serve immediately.

Note: I prefer to use 1 can RoTel tomatoes and/or 1 can tomato sauce. This adds a little "zip".

Thereare so many variations to this dish using meat or poultry. I think it depended on what was cheap and the area you lived in.
