I know people think I am crazy... but I hate Walmart.  I almost never go in that store.  They are dirty and cluttered.  The cashiers barely speak English and could care less about custoner service.  The little bit I might save is not worth all the hassles.  Okay - rant over.  I tend to do a little shopping once a week at Food Lion.  My Dad can't grocery shop any more, so I have been doing his for the last year or so.  I have a new Kroger near to my house, but I seldom get to visit there.  Husband has been doing most of our shopping.  I am not crazy about what he buys (too much bakery, not enough real food) but I can't complain if I don't have to go too.

Hubby walks to the store Sunday afternoon & gets the sales f yer which is no longer sent to us.No website ads  either.

I make up menus from the sale items & what's already inthe freezer  or pantry
 I keep a
"running list"
of items running low, at home.
We read the flyer ads  together; picking out items regularly used or that appeal to us that week: fish or meat; produce, paper products;I make out a LIST &
we stick to it
.
; sort ofUndecided;hubby buys too much bread & yummy pastryYell 'cuz it was
half price..He knows/hopes I'll make good use of it.EmbarassedInnocentCool I keep a "running  list" of items running low & ad them to the list. I then pull out matching coupons; Our store has a rack of coupons( their own & mfr.) near the customer service desk.I check it out each week & use them on "sale" items. It's a gme we take seriously & we plan to win:"beat the system". We are a team;wiling to work hard to aheive our goal of survival
; living wel lw/in our budget w/o self denial. We eat well; small quanties of a variety of quality foods; see my daily posts in" DINNER TONIGHT" Wink

MILLIE B  ;Same problem here(sale items out of stock)...I get a RAINCHECK & call weekly then daily to see when the item is back in stock; hopeully before the raincheck expires.Yell
Before it does I have them re-issue it for another 30 daysCool
I "suggested"Yell to the store "director" that they make sure to order & have on hand, the advertised "sale" items. I told him that my (90 families) neighbors no longer shop there because ***the sale items are never available. Hubby walks there on the first day of sale:" not in yet" or already gone'On  delivery day,"not put  out yet" I have them put aside & hold for me the rain check items when they finally  arrive.I call daily @ that point & hubby walks or bikes over( 1/4 mile) & picks them up w/o the cost of gasoline.***The mgr put one person in charge of ordering sale items & making sure they are out & availableSurprisedSmile
I told my 90 neighbors to check again when things improved at the store.Cool

I shop usually once a week.  But I will check Sam's Club and Costco also for close out items.  Also some of the grocery stores will reduce the price on some meats if they are close to the sell by date.  That is how I got my Prime Rib for Christmas for less than $4.00 a pound  there were some reduced  to $3.49 a pound.
I have lived in the Midwest for years but I think I still retain my New England frugality.  May also have something to do with the Scottish background in my family. I LOVE a great bargain.

Nancy, if you meant he one I posted that cake makes a tube pan or a bundt pan.  I have not tried it in a loaf pan.  If you do it as a loaf I would guess it would make 2.  To double check fill the bundt pan 3/4 with water then remove the water and fill your loaf pans 3/4 with the water to see how many pans you will need.  I am not sure of the bake time the bundt or tube pan is 2 hours. I would check the loaf pans at 90 min and adjust from there.

I go the grocery store once a week.  I buy things that are on sale and use coupons and stock up on items that I can.   I try to hit Target once a week too.  Occasionally, I will stop some place else if there is a sale or I need something.

The grocery store I prefer sends E mails on Friday for specials. Today only  two packs of coke at 1.88 a 12 pack was worth the ride.
