My oldest son took a High School Foods Class. For their final they could either take a written test, bake a two crust pie, a meringue pie or a chiffon pie. He chose to make a two crust french cream apple pie. He made the wall of fame with his pie.

So important to teach boys homemaking skills. Some are alone and some need to help wives and mothers. My sons learned to cook, and handle their own affairs at a young age. They are good men and I am proud.

Good for Him!!! I love hearing stories of young men learning to cook and bake. My son in law is a great cook, but he doesn't bake. Perhaps he has a career ahead, but if not at least he won't starve when he is on his own!!!

The teacher is pretty smart. Pies can be one of the most difficult things to make. Made well they are a delight made poorly they can be pretty bad. It takes much more attention to make a pie than it does to make a cookie or a cake, not that they can not be a challenge themselves.
Pies can be sweet or savory so to make a good pie he has a pretty good start on several things.
I don't think I have ever seen a two crust French Cream Apple Pie. I have seen the ones that just have what is like a cheesecake type mixture on top of an apple pie but it have not seen one with a second crust.
Would you care to share his recipe...or have him post it for us?
