I have three wonderful children who are quickly growing up and leaving the nest. My daughter will leave Monday to continue her college education, my son left last Monday for USAF basic training, and my youngest is 16 and a budding food photojournalist. The day before my son shipped, I asked, "What do you want me to cook for your last meal at home?" His reply, "Mama, I like food! You can cook that Italian stuff" I knew exactly what he was talking about and made his favorite Italian Casserole.

And before you know it you'll have grand-children who will make food and dessert requests. Life does go on.

It does sound like great children indeed. Hopefully they will one day bring home grandchildren to mom and follow along the cooking tradition. Hooray for the food journalist as well. Great appreciation goes to those serving in our military always.

Update:  I was looking over the new design and found this post I did almost 2 years ago!  Oldest daughter is now teaching/has her own apartment and I've started a progressive cookbook of old favorites and new discoveries for her. (Many old favorites were found here at VBB)  She has cooked dinner for her grandparents and boyfriends parents.  We're next!  My son in the USAF will give us our first grandchild in Dec.  The youngest is now in college and pursuing that photojournaism degree.  My husband and I decided we're too young to have an empty nest so we've added a dog (rescued from a pound last year) and we will be hosting a deaf foreign exchange student Jan.-June from Malaysia.  I'm really looking forward to cooking with Maninder!  Thanks for the sweet comments above.  I'm looking forward to cooking up the holidays!

And they never stop growing and going. You can't keep up, they have to stay available. Just make sure they know you like them to hear you love them.

As we get older life seems to pass even more quickly.  Try to enjoy it and get the most from the the time you have.
