I was asked to conduct a class of 30 children ages 4-13 showing them how to put together choc. chip cookies.(Naturally Nestles). This program was in conjunction with a a program sponsored by the Smithsonian Institute -Key Ingredients: America by Food and Michigan Foodways and our local public library. The class was held in the library community room. 8 adults helped me. The children were in groups. They were each given a colorful apron to wear. The adults premeasured all the ingredients. The children were given the opportunity to place the ingredients into the bowls, mix and measure out the dough onto the cookie sheets. Interesting enough, many of the children wanted to put the choc. chips into the dough. Following their effort of mixing, and the cookies were baked, the children were able to enjoy the 'fruit of their labor' with a cookie and glass of milk.

That sounds like a wonderful program for kids - and the adults too.  I bet it inspired many of them to do more cooking.
