My Dad was a baker and the bakery was our front room and the cellar was the bake shop. Dad always had a pot of chocolate icing ready and I loved to sneak down and stick my thumb in for a glob of rich chocolate to suck. Sometimes I got caught and had my knuckles smacked, but it was worth the risk and I never learned my lesson. Good thing the Health Department never learned about it.

I LOVE your story!! I would have done the same thing if I had been in your situation because I always snuck a lick when my Mom made a cake when I was a little girl. We never hade store bought cookies, cakes mixes or icings, she always made every thing from scratch (nothing better than that). My mouth is watering just thinking about it!

What a coincidence, one of today's other Memories is "cookie dough". What is it about cookie dough, cake batter, and icing! How much of these ever made it to the final product? Oh, remember taking graham crackers and spreading icing on those? Those were yummy treats.

Jean, my mom had me put icing on graham crackers too. But I still hated them. Now in my old age I love them.

I wish I had a pot of chocolate to snitch when I was growing up!  I was lucky to get to lick the beaters!  With my brothers and sister lined up too, it was hard to get extra sweets.

I don't have a "Chocolate Pot", however, I keep a can of "grocery store" Chocolate Icing in my refrigerator.  When Chocolate is the only thing that will bring me out of whatever is bothering me at the time......I head for the fridge with my spoon!!  Just a couple of spoonfuls, and I am once again on the right track!!  Try it!  You'll like it!!!
