2010 WAS ONE OF OUR NICEST EASTER'S. MY NEWLY MARRIED DAUGHTER WANTED TO HOST EASTER DINNER WITH OUR ENTIRE EXTENDED FAMILY OF ABOUT 20. MY MOTHER WHO IS GOING TO BE 80 THIS YEAR COMPLAINED THAT SHE SHOULD HAVE THE HOLIDAY AND NO ONE SHOULD TAKE IT FROM HER. AFTER MUCH COAXING, WE CONVINCED HER THAT WE WERE NOT TAKING THE HOLIDAY FROM HER, BUT GIVING HER A BREAK FOR ONE YEAR SO SHE COULD SIT BACK AND ENJOY. SHE AGREED BUT INSISTED ON BAKING HER TRADITIONAL COOKIES AND BRINGING THE EASTER HAM. AS WE ARE ITALIAN, HOLIDAYS WOULD NOT BE COMPLETE WITHOUT A PASTA SO ON GOOD FRIDAY, MY DAUGHTER AND I MADE THE SAUCE AND I TAUGHT HER HOW TO MAKE STUFFED SHELLS WHICH WAS SO ENJOYABLE TO PASS ON THIS TRADITION. EASTER SUNDAY CAME AND HOW SURPRISED WE ALL WERE, INCLUDING GRANDMA, WHEN WE ARRIVED FOR DINNER AND SHE HAD A BEAUTIFUL TABLE SET AS WELL AS EVERYONE'S FAVORITE SIDE DISHES AND TONS OF BAKERY ALL PART OF OUR TRADITIONS. THE DAY WAS WONDERFUL AS SHE ALSO HAD AN EASTER EGG HUNT FOR THE KIDS, HIDING PUZZLE PIECES IN THE EGGS SO THEY COULD END THE DAY PUTTING THE PUZZLE TOGETHER. HOW IMPRESSED I WAS AS HER MOM THAT SHE LEARNED WHAT FAMILY IS ALL ABOUT AS WELL AS OBVIOUSLY PAYING ATTENTION TO DETAIL AS TO WHAT TRADITIONS WERE TO BE CARRIED ON. THE NEXT DAY, GRANDMA CALLED HER TO TELL HER SHE DID A WONDERFUL JOB AND SHE COULD NOT HAVE DONE BETTER. KUDOS TO MY DAUGHTER, GRANDMA AND FAMILY FOR PASSING DOWN TRADITON.

How nice that your daughter is interested in carrying on tradition. Congrats on convincing your mother to take a break. I had a hard time convincing my 82 year old mother that she should relax and let us take care of the holidays! Guess it's hard to realize when you really can't do it all anymore.

Traditions are so important and you helped your daughter continue a very intricate part of family life. You should be very proud of your daughter's accomplishments and her sense of family values.

I only have the memories as we are not a close knit family. Too much distance between everyone and not keeping in touch I guess.

It's great that you let her do as she wanted without telling her what to do.

Your daughter put in a lot of work preparing that meal and those activities. You should be proud of her.
