When our daughters were growing up, we baked from scratch, which included all occasions. My girls hated baking this one particular Christmas cookie because it literally took all day to complete (baking and frosting) They would start whining about Thanksgving, knowing we were going to start baking and freezing in the next week or so. They stuck with me though and we had many treats to give away to friends, family and teachers. Imagine my surprise after the girls were grown that they have continued this tradition with their own families. They both have all boys and they love our cookies. I have several grandsons that will come over and help me bake their cookies and frost them. I am so very grateful to my kids for helping me through the years and appreciative that they care enough to continue to bake from scratch. There is just nothing like the love put into scratch baking. It just tastes different. Thanks kids!!!

What a great story! You never know how well you raised your children until they grow up. It's nice that that appreciate the memories.

My daughter always complained about having to frost cookies. Now as an adult she doesn't seem to mind, you just never know much tradition they want to keep.

Good for you. My daughter never liked baking from scratch but DID prefer the taste. Unfortunately she never picked up the tradition but does modify every box mix.

I agree!!! I love the baked from scratch taste - yep, it's just different. My mom never baked with me and I learned baking on my own (reading recipes). But one time, I had a great time baking with a young friend (she's like an adopted little sister to me!) - who went to culinary school. She taught me how to make lattice pie crust and kiffles ... hey, thanks for this memory - I think I'll give her a call and try to get another baking day together with her!!
