Back in the mid 1960's, when I was growing up my Grandmom, who lived with us too, used to make Italian Bow Tie cookies for us every New Year's Eve. I remember helping Grandmom add the flour to the beaten eggs to make the dough. Then Grandmom used to knead it to become a stiff dough. After it rested for a bit, we rolled it out and cut into long strips then pinched the center to make it look like a bow tie. She then fried each bow in very hot oil, drained it and sprinkled with powdered sugar. I still remember the smell and taste of the cookies. And every New Year's Eve, I still remember this tradition that my Grandmom had for us.

Sounds like a tradition we had in our family. My dad was the baker, but alas he has passed away and the recipe with him. Do you still have your grandmom's recipe? Would you be willing to share it? Over the years I have tried several recipes, but none were quite like my dad's. I remember that his recipe had some orange zest in it and a bit of white wine. His cookies were a favorite at all family gatherings, like weddings and baptisms and Christmas is not quite the same without his cookies and fruitcake!

Hi, I just saw your comment. I don't have my Grandmom's recipe. I don't think she ever wrote it down. I just googled some on line. They are not quite the same either, but the ingredients were most of the same that she used.
